Obituary: Monika Stephenson

Colleagues will be very sorry to learn of the death of Monika Stephenson on 3 March 2003.

Monika joined the clerical staff of the then Department of Psychiatry in 1974 and co-ordinated much of the day-to-day administration of departmental activity on the St Jamess site for many years. She also acted as personal secretary to Professor Andrew Sims, assuming significant additional responsibilities during the long period when Professor Sims held high office in the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Latterly, Monika had been based in Hyde Terrace, in the Academic Unit of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences, where her duties included acting as course secretary for the masters programmes in child forensic studies and in psychotherapy. To all her duties, Monika brought great dedication, energy and proficiency. A kind, generous and invariably helpful friend and colleague, with a ready sense of humour, Monika was also noted for her sympathetic and sensitive attitude to both students and patients.

The funeral has taken place. Donations in memory of Monika may be made to Wheatfields Hospice. Cheques, made payable to Sue Ryder Care Wheatfields, should be sent to Sue Ryder Care Wheatfields, Grove Road, Leeds LS6 2AE. Donations may be made through the Gift Aid Scheme, details of which are available from Wheatfields (tel. (0113) 278 7249).
