Obituary: Glyn Richards

Colleagues will be very sorry to learn of the death, on 18 March 2004, of Mr Glyn Richards, Technical Officer in Estate Services.

Glyn joined the University as a maintenance fitter in September 1976, was promoted to chargehand in the following year, and was appointed as a Technical Officer in 1990. Mechanical services were Glyns area of specialist expertise and he was responsible for the specification and management of contracts for the installation and maintenance of a wide range of cooling and heating systems. As a member of the Blue Area Team, he played a full and very effective part in the provision of prompt, safe and reliable maintenance services to a large part of the campus and to student residences. A well-liked and respected colleague, Glyn received a long service award in recognition of his twenty-five years at the University in 2001.

Glyn is survived by his wife, a music teacher, and their daughter and son, who, gifted musicians themselves, both attended Chethams School, Manchester.

The funeral will be held at Lawnswood Crematorium at 9.40am on Wednesday 24 March 2004. (Family flowers only, please.)

The flag on the Parkinson Tower will be flown at half-mast next Wednesday, in Glyns memory.
