Obituary: Winifred Digby
It is very sad to have to report the death, on 17 April 2004, of Mrs Winifred Digby, the former Supervisor of the General Secretarial Office.
Joining the University in November 1945, by which time she had already acquired extensive office experience, Mrs Digby was in charge of the General Secretarial Office for more than thirty years. She presided over a considerable growth in the scale of its operations, which covered the provision of secretarial services both to academic departments and to the central administration. Highly regarded throughout the University, Mrs Digby organised the running of the office with great competence and an insistence on the maintenance of high standards at all times. Mrs Digby retired in November 1976 and moved to the south of England with her husband, a former member of staff in the Department of Physical Education.
The funeral will take place at Maidstone Crematorium, at 2 p.m. on Friday, 30 April 2004. The flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast on that day, as a mark of respect.
