Obituary: Howard Sheldon

It is very sad to have to report that Howard Sheldon, a former member of the Finance Department, died on 28 August, 2004.

Howard, a former pupil of Leeds Grammar School, read Economics at the London School of Economics, graduating in 1968. He went on to train as a Chartered Accountant with the Leeds-based firm of S R Fuller and Co and qualified in 1972. In September of that year, Howard took up a post of Finance Assistant in the then Office of the Bursar. Initially employed in the Internal Audit section, he transferred, in 1980, to the Works and Services Division and, in 1982, to the Financial Accounting Office. He was promoted in 1984. Howards wide range of financial responsibilities included preparation of the Annual Accounts and handling VAT queries and returns, as well as the accounting arrangements for capital schemes. Throughout his time in the University, which he left in March 1994, Howard was a well-liked and capable colleague.

The funeral service will take place at Lawnswood Crematorium, Otley Road, Leeds 16, at 9.40 a.m. on Wednesday, 8 September, 2004. In Howards memory, the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast on the day of the funeral.
