Westby Percival-Prescott

We are sorry to announce the death, on 22 January 2005, of Mr Westby Percival-Prescott, FIIC, internationally renowned conservator of pictures and himself a painter of portraits, abstracts and still lifes. Mr Percival-Prescott, who was employed for many years by the National Maritime Museum, latterly as Keeper and Head of the Picture Department, pioneered and encouraged a number of important new approaches to picture conservation and undertook widely acclaimed studies of old master painting methods and materials. In 1980-81, he joined the University as a temporary Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art.
