Obituary: Judith Hanlon
It is with considerable sadness that we report the untimely death on 28 February 2008 of Miss Judith Hanlon, Finance Manager, School of Healthcare. Judith joined the School in November 1998, having spent a number of years working for the NHS in the offices of the Regional Health Authority. Judiths business acumen, attention to detail, dedication, skill and knowledge were critical in ensuring that the School emerged from a particularly difficult financial period in 2000. Judiths in-depth understanding of the complexities of NHS funding were invaluable to the University in ensuring highly successful business interactions with the NHS related to the education of healthcare professionals. In 2001 Judith played a key role in the establishment of a new form of contract with the University for NHS-funded education. So successful was this contract that it formed the basis of the National Contract between the NHS and all Higher Education providers in England introduced in 2006.
She will be remembered for her dry sense of humour, sound advice and an eclectic taste in music. The funeral is to be held at 1230 on Thursday 6 March 2008 at Saltwell Crematorium, Gateshead. The Flag will be flown at half-mast on the Parkinson Building on that day in Judiths memory. Colleagues are invited to make a donation to the Arthritis Research Campaign in lieu of flowers.
