Susan Clayton
Members will be very sorry to learn that Mrs Susan Clayton, Finance Officer in the Language Centre, died on 23 October 2010.
The following obituary has been composed by colleagues, past and present, within the Centre.
Susan came to work at the Language Centre in 1995, where she was appointed as
Assistant to the Financial Administrator during an extremely busy period. She had previously worked as a bank clerk before taking a career break to care for her two children. From the first day Susan showed total commitment to her job and continued to provide invaluable support to the Language Centre for the remainder of her time there, playing a crucial role in managing the rapid increase in international students entering the Centre in the last few years.
Her skills, dedication, and hard work made her a key member of staff and her highly approachable and courteous manner meant that she was popular with both staff and students. In recent years Susan took on increased responsibilities, but was able to rise to every challenge with her characteristic professionalism and good humour. She will be sorely missed by her colleagues and friends.
Outside work Susan was totally dedicated to her family. She loved animals, reading and doing jigsaws, and very much enjoyed her garden.
Until her sudden and tragic death she was in good health.
Susan leaves a husband, Geoff, and two children in their early 20s, Mark and Nicola.
The funeral service will be held at 12.20pm on Tuesday, 2 November at Rawdon Crematorium, Leeds Road, Rawdon, LS19 6JP, when, in Susan’s memory, the flag will be flown at half-mast on the Parkinson Building.
