Dr Hilary Worthy
We are sorry to have to report the death, on 11 April 2010, of Dr Hilary Worthy, former lay member of the Court and the Council.
Dr Worthy attended Leeds Girls High School, where she was Head Girl. She went on to read Medicine at Cambridge and St Bartholomewss Hospital, and worked as a GP in Cambridge and later in Community Medicine in Leeds. Dr Worthy was appointed to the Council and the Court in 1975, serving on the former until 1991 and on Court until 1998. She was a staunch friend and supporter of the University. Her father was Professor A N Shimmin, CBE, former Professor of Social Science at Leeds and author of The University of Leeds: The First Half-Century.
Dr Worthy is survived by her husband, Stanley, a former consultant in radiotherapy and oncology at Cookridge Hospital, and by their son, John, and daughter, Sylvia.
