Fred Leach
Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 8th March 2012, of Mr Fred Leach, former Senior Assistant Bursar.
Fred was appointed as Administrative Assistant in the Bursar’s Office in 1963. This was during a period of expansion at the University and he skilfully facilitated the development of the residential, catering and maintenance services, becoming, in 1969, an Ancillary Services Officer. This was soon followed by his appointment as Senior Assistant Bursar for Ancillary Services. He had a public image of a man of considerable reserve which belied an impish sense of humour, warmth and good-naturedness. This endeared him to his staff, and his commitment to the University engendered this attitude in those who worked with him. Fred was always willing to listen and would carefully consider any advice given before taking the appropriate action. In 1980 he took up a new role steering the management accounting section in the Bursar’s Office, before taking early retirement in 1982.
The family funeral service will be held at 12.20pm on 20th March 2012 at Stonefall Cemetery and Crematorium, Harrogate. There are to be no flowers at the funeral: there will be a collection in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The flag on the Parkinson Building will be at half-mast on the day of the funeral.
