John Jones
As, sadly, many members will already know, Mr John Jones, formerly of Estate Services, died on 16 August 2013.
John joined the University as an Electrical Craftsman in September 2004. He came to Leeds as a very experienced maintenance electrician, who had served a full craft apprenticeship and had over thirty years’ experience with British Coal (for whom he worked for two decades); Dunlop Slazenger; and Napier Brown, a company involved in the production of sugar for industrial and commercial use, as well as mixes for the food industry. In each of these organisations, John had been a very highly regarded employee. He allied considerable technical competence in the repair, maintenance and installation of an extensive range of electrical equipment with enthusiasm, adaptability and a generous readiness to help and support colleagues. All these qualities were abundantly in evidence during John’s time with Estate Services. He carried out a wide range of electrical tasks across the campus with the utmost skill and professionalism, whilst his buoyant and cheerful personality won him many friends within the workplace. It was a shock and sadness to everyone when ill health compelled his retirement earlier in the summer.
John is survived by his wife, Sandra, and son, Darren.
