Steve Manthorp is a Project Manager in the Cultural Institute, with a special interest in the digital and creative industries. He works with a broad range of partners, from games design companies to creative SMEs and world-leading entertainment providers. He manages our innovative Leeds Creative Labs programme, and also coordinates the Universitys activity for Light Night. He is would welcome enquiries from commercial organisations looking to expand their engagement with higher education.
Before joining the Cultural Institute, Steves long career in arts curation includes stints as exhibitions officer for Bradfords art galleries and museums and Media Arts Officer at Arts Council Englands Yorkshire officer. In 2005 he received a NESTA fellowship to develop new cultural uses for games and game engines. His expertise in curation allows him to facilitate creative projects between our Cultural Institute Fellows and researchers the University of Leeds.
Steve has a broad interest in culture, ranging from opera to professional wrestling. He is a practising artist, working on his own and with Shanaz Gulzar in the co-practice Adept, specialising in large-scale light and digital installations. His artwork Haunted Dolls House was recently exhibited in Harewood Houses Victorian season. He is a keen contributor to Yorkshires own Bettakultcha talks.
