What is Collaborate?

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is web based online interactive session platform. It includes audio, video, text chat, an interactive whiteboard, PowerPoint display, application sharing, breakout rooms, live closed captioning, polling and session recording. It can be accessed using a web browser on desktop PCs and laptops, and via the BB Student app on iOS, Android and Windows devices.

Collaborate Ultra is available to all staff and students via modules and organisations in Minerva. It can be used for virtual office hours, tutorials, student led discussions or informal chat. In order for students to access Collaborate staff must first create a link in their module/organisation. External users can participate as guests.

View the participant video introduction.

Collaborate is available on Android and iOS devices, and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD using the relevant app. Some tools aren't available via mobile. We recommend that you read the guide prior to using it.

Test Room

At present only browsers on Microsoft Surface devices are supported. Collaborate Ultra will not work via the browser with iOS, and isn’t supported on Android. For the best experience we recommend using the Blackboard app.

Visit the Collaborate Test Room before first use, where you can familiarise yourself with the interface, and configure audio & video.
