Obituary: Professor Frederick M Binder

Members will be very sorry to learn of the death, on 28 January 2004, of Professor Frederick M Binder, at the age of 83.

Professor Binder was President of Juniata College, Pennsylvania, USA, from 1975 to 1986, during which time a student exchange scheme was established between the College and the University. Professor Binders own academic discipline was history and he was the author of numerous articles and several books on American history; he also made one foray into spy fiction. He was awarded Honorary Degrees by a number of universities in the USA and was Visiting Professor in the School of History at Leeds in 1986-87, to which he returned in session 1992-93.
