Gwyn Johnson
We are very sorry to have to report the death on Monday of this week (20 November) of Mr Gwyn Johnson, formerly Deputy Director of the Careers Service.
In 1965, Gwyn Johnson was appointed Assistant Secretary to the Appointments Board. He had previously held a Short Service Commission in the RAF (1954-59) and worked as a market research executive with Procter and Gamble Limited (1959-65). Gwyn Johnson was to remain with what later became the Careers Service for thirty years, retiring in 1995. Throughout that time, he was an extremely highly regarded colleague, who enjoyed an excellent rapport with the students he advised, many of them from the arts, social studies and business; with employers; and with members of the academic staff. He was made Senior Careers Adviser in 1980 and, as Deputy Director from 1983 onwards, took a leading part in the organisation and development of the Service.
