Christopher Dell

We are very sorry to have to let colleagues know that Mr Christopher Dell, former Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mining and Mineral Sciences, died on 3 January 2007.

Having obtained a mining degree in 1941, Mr Dell spent the next few years at the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE), Farnborough. Between 1946 and 1952 he worked at the Mufulira Copper Mines in Zambia. Following several years at the NCB Coal Research Establishment in Stoke Orchard, Mr Dell was appointed, in 1959, as Lecturer in Mining and Mineral Sciences at the University. Here he continued to expand his research into mineral separation processes. His work received support from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the National Coal Board. Mr Dell was also one of the founders of the Departments degree programme in Mineral Engineering.

Mr Dell was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1966 and retired from the University in 1983.
