Clearing information for parents, carers and teachers

We understand that preparing for university can be an exciting and challenging time for both you and the young person in your care.

Exam results are only the beginning. If the young person in your care is exploring their options or reconsidering their chosen course, Clearing provides a fantastic opportunity to help them secure the university place that supports their ambitions.

Anybody who is interested in joining Leeds through Clearing can browse our 2025 course vacancies and apply online as soon as they're published — even if they haven't received their exam results yet.

Results Day was a bit of a panic for me but I got onto the phone to the Clearing team and they were brilliant, they calmed me down and talked me through all my options. Coming to Leeds has worked out really well.

Clearing: what you need to know

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a late application opportunity for students looking to secure a place at a university after the UCAS deadline.

Students might choose to apply through Clearing if:

  • they haven’t achieved the grades needed to meet their university offers
  • they've changed their mind about their offer in favour of a different university or course
  • they didn’t receive any offers from a university
  • they missed the UCAS deadline and haven’t already applied.

Applying for a place at Leeds through Clearing

Clearing 2025 will open from Saturday 5 July, when your young person will be able to view our undergraduate course vacancies and apply online for a place at Leeds.

If they already have their results when Clearing opens, we’ll review their application and get in touch to confirm if we’re able to offer them a place to join us in September.

If they haven’t yet received their results, they can still apply for priority Clearing using their predicted grades to be considered for a place.

If your young person finds themself reconsidering their options on Results Day (Thursday 14 August), they’ll be able to check our website to see which courses are available and find out how to contact us to discuss a place at Leeds through Clearing 2025.

Applying for accommodation

We understand that choosing where to live is a huge part of university life and that feeling at home will help your young person to be happy and thrive.

Clearing applicants can apply for accommodation once their place at Leeds has been confirmed.

Managing Student Finance

If the young person in your care has previously applied for student finance, they can easily change their course details through their student finance account. If not, they can still apply for student finance after their Clearing place has been confirmed, though they may have to wait a little longer to receive all their funding.
