The seminar will provide insights into the current global trends in food quality labels - such as special trademarks that protect products closely connected to a specific place.

The Global Food and Environment Institute (GFEI) invites you to join our webinar titled: 'Role of food quality labels on global food sustainability and rural development'

Speaker: Dr Andrea Zappalaglio (School of Law)

During the talk, we will explore current global trends in food quality labels, especially Geographical Indications. These are special trademarks that protect products closely connected to a specific place, like certain cheeses or wines. The discussion will be based on recent research and will focus on how these labels can support sustainable food production and help rural communities thrive. Andrea has more recently been focusing on expanding his research area to include topics like Greenwashing and trying to understand what 21st century IP truly needs to support the Sustainable Developing Goals and the European Green Deal.

The session will start with welcomes and introductions from the host, followed by a 20-minute presentation by Dr Andrea Zappalaglio. Afterwards, there will be 10 minutes for questions and answers managed by the Chair of this event Professor Graham Dutfield.

Join us for an engaging talk with Dr Andrea Zappalaglio, who is an Associate Professor specialising in Intellectual Property Law at the University of Leeds. He holds a doctorate from Oxford and has received awards for his work.
