Eligibility
We are proud to support Chevening Scholarships, the UK Government’s global scholarship programme funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations.
These scholarships are awarded to outstanding scholars with leadership potential.
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- If applying for an award from an ODA-eligible country, be resident in an ODA-eligible country. This does not have to be the country of citizenship, but all applicants must show a clear intention to support their country of award.
- If you live in a European overseas territory, you may apply through the relevant Chevening award scheme for the European country of which you are a citizen.
- Commit to returning to your home country (country of award) for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
- Have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours), acquired after the completion of your undergraduate degree.
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK Masters programme. You must have finished your undergraduate studies at least two years before the Chevening application deadline, even if you have not yet received your certificate. However, you will need to have your certificate by the time of your interview.
- Apply to three different eligible UK university courses. If you are conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, you must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by 17.00 BST (UK time) on 8 July 2027. We recommend applying to UK universities as soon as possible.
Applications are reviewed against Chevening's eligibility criteria. In mid-February 2027, applicants are shortlisted by Chevening for interviews.
Interviews take place during March and April 2027. The outcome is known from mid-June 2027.
Chevening Partnership Scholarships
If you apply to Chevening for funding, and if you're eligible, Chevening will consider you for a University of Leeds Chevening Partnership award.
The Chevening Partnership Scholarship can support applicants of the following courses:

- Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation MRes

- Sustainable Food Systems and Food Security MSc
- Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages MA
- Urban Data Science and Analytics MSc
You can apply in the same way as for the standard Chevening Scholarships.
How to apply
Applications open on 4 August 2026 at 11am.
You should apply for a taught postgraduate place of study as soon as possible after the application window opens.
