Eligibility

These scholarships will be awarded to selected students as a tuition fee discount on the first year’s tuition fee. 

To apply for an Undergraduate International Excellence Scholarship, you must:  

  • Be classified as an international student for fee purposes.
  • Have a conditional or unconditional offer for an eligible undergraduate course starting in September 2027.
  • Be self-funded or partially funded.
  • Be entering into Year 1 of your undergraduate course.
  • Demonstrate an excellent academic track record evidenced through your high school qualifications.
  • Show excellent personal skills evidenced through extracurricular activities.
  • In your application, explain why you’re applying to study at the University of Leeds and how it fits your future ambitions and goals. 

Leeds International Foundation Year students

Students who progress to Leeds from the Leeds International Foundation Year, will be automatically considered for this scholarship and do not need to submit an application.  

Students who are applying to study on the Leeds International Foundation Year in September 2027/28 can apply for the Leeds International Foundation Year Scholarship.  

Leeds International Study Centre students

Students who progress to Leeds from the International Foundation Year at the Leeds International Study Centre, will be automatically considered for this scholarship and do not need to submit a separate application.  

Students who progress to Leeds from the International Year One at the Leeds International Study Centre are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. 

Excluded courses

The following undergraduate courses are not eligible for the International Excellence Scholarship:    

  • Medicine and Surgery MBChB  
  • Dental Surgery BChD. 

Terms and conditions

  • This scholarship can be combined with our Undergraduate International Regional Scholarship or external funding as long as this does not exceed 100% of your tuition fees. You may also be able to combine this scholarship with a School or Faculty scholarship. 
  • Please check the terms and conditions of any other scholarships that you have received to ensure that they can also be combined.   
  • If you are applying through an International Partner Agreement and are offered more than one University of Leeds scholarship, you can only accept one scholarship. This will be whichever award represents the highest value. 
  • The scholarship award cannot be deferred to the following year and is non-transferable to other courses at the University of Leeds. 
  • This scholarship is paid as a fee reduction for your first year of study only and can only be used as a fee reduction. It cannot be used towards other costs, including but not exclusive to maintenance or accommodation costs. 
  • The final scholarship awarded to an applicant is determined by the University and all decisions are final. 

 

How to apply

You can only apply for this scholarship once you have a conditional or unconditional offer for an undergraduate degree. If you have an offer for multiple degrees at the University of Leeds, you will need to submit a separate scholarship application for each course.    

We will notify offer holders by email with further details of how to apply for the scholarship when the application form is available.

Application outcomes

All scholarship applicants will be notified of the outcome of their scholarship application by no later than 10 May 2027.
