[University of Leeds graduate Robert Bruce walks through a city at night.]

[Robert appears on screen and the following text appears on screen – Robert Bruce, Radio Presenter on Capital XTRA and University of Leeds graduate]

Robert: When I was at Leeds I presented on student radio for about four years.

[Robert walks through a city at night, past outdoor seating areas and groups of people.]

Robert: So, I just remember rocking up to Leeds Student Radio (LSR) like, hey, I’m Robert, what goes on here, what can I do? How can I get involved? The same with Leeds Student Television (LSTV).

[Outdoor screen flashes up Heart TV and Capital TV logos]

[Robert opens a glass door with the words ‘Global’ written on it.]

Robert: And just making good relationships with different people, people that I knew are gonna help me grow.

[Robert walks through an open doorway after pushing open a glass door with the words ‘Global’ written on it. Robert walks into the foyer of the building.]

Robert: Just literally went in all guns blazing, met loads of people, immersed myself in the Student Union and the media societies and the media society culture.

[Purple microphone appears with the wording ‘Capital XTRA’ ‘Dance.’ ‘Urban.’ and ‘UK’ written on the microphone.]

Robert: And took literally every opportunity that will come my way.

[Robert sits in a radio studio with the wording ‘Capital XTRA’, ‘Dance.’ and ‘Urban.’ on a screens in the studio. Robert sits in front of a purple microphone and computer screen and puts headphones on. There is also other studio equipment on display.]

[Sound equipment appears on screen and a monitor showing a clock and ‘On air’ ‘Mic Live’ text appears.]

[ Robert is wearing headphones and talking into a purple microphone and smiling while talking.]

Robert: Doing all of my extra stuff on the side, like my radio, TV and presenting stuff really fed back into my course because coming to a station like this it's like you transfer it into a different environment where the stakes are much higher and the listening figures are way bigger but the core foundations of what you learnt back at LSR are still the same.

[Robert is wearing headphones and speaking into a purple microphone in a radio studio surrounded by screens and sound equipment. Capital XTRA is written on big screens near where Robert is sitting.]

Robert: I think you always get back what you invest because Leeds builds you a really really good network. They are all connected with the media industries in the local area and a lot of people that come to Leeds are just of the calibre of working really hard.

[A wide shot of Robert, wearing headphones, speaking into a purple microphone in a radio studio surrounded by screens and sound equipment. Capital XTRA is written on different screens around the studio and there is a big window in the background.]

[A close up shot of Robert speaking into a purple microphone, in front of a screen, surrounded by other sound equipment and another microphone. A big window and two screens with ‘Capital XTRA’ written on them feature in the background.]

Robert: That’s just the culture and the environment of Leeds, always trying to be one step ahead.

Robert: I did the open day talks last year as well, and just getting to talk to students that wanna come to Leeds and their parents even just to really say like yes, this is what Leeds is about, this is what we do, this is what I've done from it and it’s a really cool place to come.

[Robert sits in front of computer screens and a microphone in a radio studio surrounded by sound equipment. Capital XTRA is written on different screens in the studio and there is a screen with a clock.]

Robert: So, I loved getting involved with all uni life post my studies.

[Wide and close up shots of Robert in a radio studio speaking into a purple microphone, with headphones on, in front of a screen, surrounded by other sound equipment and Capital XTRA branding.]

Robert: Coming out of uni I felt like I'm ready to go and be creative on a bigger scale now, it's quite daunting thinking how do I transfer that into real life but I felt like uni and all the extra stuff on the side gave me a really solid foundation to go and do that.

[University of Leeds logo appears in white on a pink background.]
