Parkinson building in the sunshine

The School of History at Leeds invites expressions of interest from researchers who wish to make an application for the 2018 Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme.

The School of History can offer an excellent world class research environment, with Staff in the School who pursue research that is characterised by innovative and powerful projects ranging widely by period, geography, and theme.

The University of Leeds is one of the top UK universities for research and impact power. The results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 saw Leeds ranked in 10th place for research power, a measure of the number of people producing the highest quality research.

Those considering an application to the Leverhulme ECR Fellowships scheme in conjunction with History are encouraged to refer to our staff profile pages and make contact with individual academics who most represent your intended area of research. General enquiries may be made to historyresearch@leeds.ac.uk.  All potential applicants must have an agreed mentor in advance of the submission of their expression of interest paperwork, and it is strongly advised that you develop this paperwork in conjunction with this mentor.

Expression of interest – timescale and process

Due to the high number of applicants in previous iterations, the School will be shortlisting candidates in advance of the separate University process. Our internal deadline for expressions of interest is 9AM on Wednesday 3rd of JANUARY 2018. By this deadline applicants should have submitted the following documents to historyresearch@leeds.ac.uk

i)             a one-page summary of the research proposal which sets out the scholarly context in which the research will be undertaken, the research questions to be addressed, the methodology to be used, and the proposed outcomes of the project;

ii)            a short academic CV which also clearly outlines how the proposed research will fit into the research environment of the School of History and the University

Shortlisted candidates will be offered support in the preparation of their applications by both the School and the wider University.
