Undergraduate fees

You are classified as either a home or international student for the purpose of assessing tuition fees. Where your status is not clear from your application form, you will enter our fee assessment process.

Tuition fees for UK undergraduate students starting in 2024/25

Tuition fees for UK full-time undergraduate students for 2024/25 have been agreed by the UK Government and will remain at the current fee level of £9,250.

The fee may increase in future years of your course in line with inflation, and as permitted by law. Fees for UK undergraduate students are decided by the Government and may vary if policy changes.

If you're an eligible full-time or part-time UK student (classified as a home student) you won't have to pay any tuition fees up front unless you want to.

Our page on student loans explains government loans that cover the full cost of your tuition fees. You won’t have to start paying the loan back until you are earning at least £25,000 a year working in the UK.

Depending on your household income, financial assistance may also be available from us to help cover the cost of your tuition fees. You can check your eligibility for Leeds financial assistance.

We will continue to offer financial support, bursaries and scholarships so that students from backgrounds that are under-represented within higher education have the same opportunities to access a Leeds education as everyone else. You can read information on what undergraduate funding is available.

Study abroad and work placement years for UK students

Fees will be substantially reduced for a study abroad or work placement year: for home students paying the £9,250 tuition fee, the reduced fee will be £1,385.

For full-time foundation year courses (UK)

Fees for foundation years automatically leading on to a degree will be the same as full-time undergraduate fees, but financial support is available depending on household income.

For part-time undergraduate courses (UK)

The annual fee will be calculated as a proportion of the equivalent full-time fee, based on the number of credits you will be studying. For example, if the full-time course is 120 credits and you will be studying 60 credits, your fee will be 50% of the full-time course fee.

Tuition fees for international students starting in 2024/25 and 2023/24

International fee information is available on individual course pages. Visit Course Search to find the fees for your course.

Fees quoted are based on full-time study and apply for each year of the course. These fees are fixed at this level for each year of your course allowing you to plan your finances for the duration of your studies.

The academic fee covers tuition and exam costs as well as membership of the students' union. The fees are higher than for UK students because they are not subsidised by the UK government. We have a range of subject specific scholarships. Read more about our subject-related scholarships and the criteria for award.

Study abroad and work placement years for international students

Fees will be substantially reduced for a study abroad or work placement year. The amount will depend on your year of entry.

For international students starting their studies in 2023/24, the reduced fee for a work or study abroad placement year will be £3,713.

We have information on fees and funding for incoming exchange and study abroad students, and on fees and scholarships for Leeds International Summer School students.

Sponsored students

If you are supported by your government, employer, or other sponsor, you should provide a letter from them addressed to the University, confirming that the fees will be paid directly. Sponsors cannot pay in instalments.

For more detail, see our information for sponsored students on our For Students website.

Paying your tuition fees

You need to make arrangements to pay your tuition fees before the start of the academic year or you won't be able to register. Find out more about how to pay your tuition fees and view the tuition fee payment schedule on our website For Students.

You become liable to pay tuition fees when you register on your course. If you leave before the end of your course, we calculate your fees based on your leaving date. Read more about tuition fee liability on our website For Students.
