My volunteering activity

I have been a Leeds alumni volunteer in Guangzhou, China for several years, mainly focused on helping to organise the annual alumni events.

Most recently, I was instrumental in organising a full afternoon alumni event. We invited four guest speakers, including myself, for a roundtable sharing in areas such as career choices, mental wellbeing, entrepreneurship and volunteering.  More than 50 University alumni joined a hugely engaging session, rounded off with a delicious buffet dinner and drinks and a lucky draw.

My volunteering experience has been rewarding and fruitful. It has enabled me to remain in contact with the University, whilst expanding my networks on the ground. Most importantly, I feel we can make a difference and be a positive force for those navigating the challenges of work and life.

Why I became a Leeds volunteer

My years as an undergraduate student at Leeds were amongst the happiest in my life.  My choice to study Chinese opened up an incredible world of opportunity which has informed all stages of my career in law and entrepreneurship.

Young graduates today face an uncertain world and often face challenges. By volunteering with Leeds, I am hopefully able to make a small difference.

My advice to anyone thinking about volunteering at Leeds

Don’t think any longer. Roll up your sleeves and jump in. Get ready to meet some wonderful people, represent a world-class university and make a difference.
