Prepare for Clearing
Clearing is an opportunity to apply for an undergraduate place at a university after the UCAS deadline.
You might apply through Clearing if:
- you’ve changed your mind about your chosen course or university
- your grades are different than expected
- you missed the UCAS deadline and haven’t yet applied for a course beginning in September 2026
- you didn’t receive the offer you wanted.
How to apply
If you're interested in applying through Clearing, you can contact our Clearing call centre from 8am on A-level results day, Thursday 13 August 2026.
We'll publish our full list of undergraduate Clearing vacancies and details of how to contact the call centre closer to the time.
In the meantime, you can register for updates to stay informed and be among the first to know when our Clearing vacancies are available.
What you need to do before results day
Make sure your contact details are up to date in your UCAS account. We recommend using a personal email address rather than a school email address.
You can also nominate someone to speak to universities on your behalf by adding them as a nominated contact in your UCAS application.
If you haven't applied through UCAS this year, you’ll need to register with UCAS and submit and application before you enquire about a course through Clearing at Leeds. UCAS will give you a personal ID number to use when talking to universities.
Strategic Clearing applicants
If you've submitted an application through Strategic Clearing, we'll contact you by email.
Key deadlines:
- 12pm (BST), Thursday 6 August 2026 – deadline to accept your Strategic Clearing place.
- 5pm (BST), Thursday 6 August 2026 – deadline to update your UCAS application.

Apply for accommodation
If you accept a place at Leeds through Clearing and apply by Monday 31 August 2026, you’ll be guaranteed University-arranged accommodation for your first year.
You’ll be able to apply for your accommodation two days after your undergraduate place has been confirmed in UCAS, via our accommodation portal.
