Video transcript for ‘Clearing 2025: Rewrite your story’ embedded on the Clearing homepage.

(The video starts with an image of the Great Hall and the text ‘Clearing 2025, rewrite your story, Leeds, your new Plan A’. The screen then displays the text ‘Khwaab’s story’, and shows student Khwaab standing in front of the Roger Stevens Building on the University of Leeds campus.)

Khwaab: I’d accepted a place at a different university when I realised that Leeds was a better fit for me. The course was more flexible, and I was excited to live in a large, student-friendly city.

(The screen shows student Khwaab walking towards the camera on the precinct outside the University Union building.)

Khwaab: I’m so glad I chose to come to Leeds. It’s been the perfect place to explore my academic interests and you won’t find friendlier people anywhere else.

(The screen shows an image of the sun shining through the trees outside the Roger Stevens Building. Students Khwaab and Jack are shown smiling and talking. The screen then shows the text ‘Jack’s story’. Student Jack is shown walking towards the camera in Chancellor’s Court, a green space on campus.)

Jack: I originally accepted an offer from a different university, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to come to Leeds. I really like the atmosphere of the campus, the student community, plus Leeds has got a great academic reputation.

(The screen shows student Jack sitting on a picnic bench outside the University Union.)

Jack: Luckily, I was able to switch universities through Clearing. The admissions team walked me through the process. They really took the stress out of it.

(Student Jack is then shown standing in front of Clothworkers Court.)

Jack: I’m so glad I was brave enough to change my mind. Clearing provided me with a bit of breathing space, a chance to reflect, and to make the right choice.

(Student Jack is then shown standing in front of the Sir William Henry Bragg building.)

Jack: For anyone considering applying through Clearing, I’d recommend making a shortlist of courses and universities that you’re interested in, as well as applying early. If you’re like me, you won’t regret it.

(A student, Princes, is shown laughing on screen. The screen then shows students Jack, Rhys and Princes talking as they walk past the University Union. The screen shows the text ‘Princes’s story’. Student Princes is standing next to a sculpture on campus.)

Princes: Without Clearing, I wouldn’t be at Leeds today. I really wanted to attend a Russell Group University, but I wasn’t sure I was going to get the grades that I needed.

(Student Princes stands in a green space on campus, in front of a tree and a different sculpture featuring the motto, ‘To leaf is to learn’.)

Princes: Clearing gave me more time to do my research. I learned all about Leeds and about which courses might offer me a place with my predicted grades.

(Students Princes, Khwaab and Rhys are shown walking across a busy redbrick courtyard.)

Princes: To anyone thinking about Clearing, I’d say find out everything you can about the university you want to attend. There are usually alternative routes, depending on your background and circumstances.

(Student Princes stands outside the Parkinson Building. Other students are sitting on the steps behind her, socialising in the sunshine.)

Princes: Leeds offers the Access to Leeds programme, Foundation Years – it doesn’t always come down to grades. Clearing is a great way to get to where you want to be.

(Students Jack, Rhys and Princes are shown walking through St George’s Field. The screen then shows an image of student Rhys smiling, as he sits on the steps of the Parkinson Building. The screen then reads ‘Rhys’s story’. Student Rhys is shown standing in front of the Roger Stevens Building.)

Rhys: I realised late in the year that my first choice of university wasn’t right for me. I preferred everything about Leeds. The course, the city, the academic reputation. But I was worried I’d have to push back my education by a whole year if I wanted to swap courses.

(The screen shows student Rhys walking towards the camera, in front of Charles Morris Hall, an on-campus student accommodation building.)

Rhys: Then I found out about Clearing. It gave me time to research my options and pivot without delaying my university start date. I thought the process would be stressful, but there was so much help available.

(Student Rhys is shown leaning against a tree in St. George’s Field, a green space on campus.)

Rhys: If you’ve changed your mind about what you want to do, don’t panic, take your time, and consider applying through Clearing, to make sure you end up at the university that’s right for you.

(The video ends with an image of the Parkinson Building clock tower. The screen displays the text  ‘Clearing at Leeds’ and ‘Leeds.ac.uk/clearing’.)
