My role

I support learners as part of the Academic Skills team at the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC), offering tailored maths support through one-to-one and group sessions to applicants, LLC students and mature students from schools and faculties across the University. I also support applicants who are taking maths matriculation exams as part of the Alternative Entry Scheme at Leeds.

I design and deliver the ‘Joy of Maths’ programme as part of JumpStart, a higher education taster course for adults wanting to find out more about studying at university (the course runs twice a year).

My work focuses on empowering mature students, LLC students and applicants from diverse backgrounds to build confidence and succeed in their studies. I am particularly interested in supporting people who have had negative experiences with maths or have anxiety around the subject. My goal is to provide a positive encouraging environment to support learners in rebuilding their confidence and overcoming fears.

Alongside my role at the LLC I am currently completing my PhD thesis write-up, where my research within the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering at Leeds focused on exploring ankle ligament damage mechanisms.
