My role

I am a Teaching Fellow in the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) and teach across our Arts and Humanities Foundation Year and Professional Studies programmes. In these capacities I also support students as an academic personal tutor and assist with programme delivery.

Professional experience

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and joined the LLC in 2024. I received my PhD in History of Art, which explored the role played by large-scale documentary projects in contemporary art, from the University of Leeds in 2015.

I also have an MA and BA in History of Art from the University of Leeds and previously studied Fine Art at Chesterfield College.

Research interests

My research focuses on the histories of street and documentary photography and has been published in The Oxford Art Journal, parallax and The Burlington Magazine, among others.

I am currently working on an edited collection exploring the legacies of critical realism in contemporary art, which will be published by Brill in 2026, and a project exploring the relationship between the University of Aberdeen’s photographic collections and the sea funded by the Paul Mellon Centre.

I also edit the journal Philosophy of Photography.
