Teaching interests

I lead and teach on the Nursing Associate Foundation Degree Apprenticeship here at the Lifelong Learning Centre. I walk the journey with students as they transition from their care support roles to pre-registration professionalism.

The focus of my teaching is professional development, interdisciplinary and team working, communication, safeguarding, evidence-based practice, service improvement, public health and supervision.

I am committed to placing the principles of partnership working, patient-centred and accessible care at the heart of teaching and learning activities. Centring lived experience case studies from the local community within teaching and learning activities is incredibly rewarding and motivates students to challenge assumptions and take multiple perspectives.

I enjoy supporting students to develop their confidence, challenge their own perspectives and reflect critically on their work-based learning and practice. I want to support students to challenge structural inequalities and be trauma-informed in their work to promote the health and wellbeing of children and adults living in the region. I am passionate about centring the experiences of people living with learning disabilities at the heart of teaching foundational nursing knowledge and practice across the programme to promote positive health outcomes.

Professional experience/memberships

I am an NMC-registered mental health nurse and specialist community public health nurse.

Research interests

Whilst undertaking an MSc Psychology (conversion) programme in 2023, I investigated the experiences of parents supporting and accompanying their children in the anaesthetic room using semi-structured interviews. My work is awaiting peer review publication.
