I always wanted to study abroad in a university or college of high repute and acquire a degree that is internationally recognised. Being a student from a commerce and finance background, I knew that the UK was the right place for me, but I had no idea about any colleges or universities there.

In the year 2011, during a vacation in Paris, I met a student from the University of Leeds who strongly recommended the Business School for my further studies. When I explored Leeds University Business School, I found that it was the place I longed for. I was very much inspired by the success stories of its alumni. Leeds University Business School is one of the top ranking institutions in the UK, having worldwide repute in the research field of international business.

Moreover, Leeds is a very lively place and it offers all of the necessary facilities for students, with excellent accommodation and modern amenities.

Student support

Moving to a foreign land is often challenging but the University of Leeds makes the best of the efforts so that the incoming students do not experience a culture shock. The warm welcome given by a group of cheerful, enthusiastic students at Leeds Bradford Airport, soon after my arrival in Leeds, was overwhelming. They handed over a welcome pack with first-hand information that I needed to settle down comfortably. The welcome pack contained details of the activities and events organized during the Welcome Week which I found beneficial.

During the entire Masters programme, every student is assigned a personal tutor to guide, encourage and assist them in every possible way. It was a privilege to a have a personal tutor who not only guided me at every step but also reviewed my academic performance in meetings frequently. The role of Skills@Library workshops has been indispensable in honing my writing skills, which boosted my academic performance.

Careers support

The experience of studying at the University of Leeds was truly enriching. The Careers Centre guides interested students throughout their job application process, extends help in the preparation of their CV and cover letters for job applications, prepares them for job interviews and allows the students to book drop-in sessions to evaluate their employability skills.

I contacted the Careers Centre several times and was pleased to receive their support. I also got an opportunity to attend the careers fairs organized by the University where I was able to interact freely with the officials of big brands. The networking events I attended proved to be a lot more beneficial than I had expected. I was inspired to meet the industry experts who were doing cutting-edge work in their respective fields.

Recommending Leeds

Studying at the University of Leeds helped me in discovering my hidden talents and in realising my untapped potential. After my Masters, I taught as an Assistant Professor in an Indian university and wrote and presented a few research papers in an International Conference and in AIB India Conference. Currently I am working in a reputed US based IT company in India. Right from working in the academic field to doing a corporate job, I was able to climb up the career ladder with the exposure I got and the knowledge I acquired while studying at the University of Leeds.

The University of Leeds offers a vast ocean of opportunities. It is up to the students to make the most out of their experience of studying in this prestigious institution. The students are free to join the Leeds University Union societies and develop their hobbies of gardening, dance and drama, learning foreign languages. I highly recommend the students to not only focus on their studies but also participate in the extra-curricular activities for their all-round development.
