The University of Leeds congratulates alumna Claire Cashmore who won a silver medal in the Women's 100m SB8 breaststroke final at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

This latest medal adds to her impressive tally of three bronze in the 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Games.

The University’s Olympics Projects Manager Matt Davison said: “Claire is an exceptionally talented and dedicated swimmer and it’s fantastic to see her achieve a medal at her third consecutive Paralympics.

“We knew she had a chance to get on the podium, so this is an outstanding result. Everyone at the University, especially those who’ve helped her balance her studies and training in the lead-up to London 2012, is extremely proud of her success.”

Claire will compete again in the 200m Individual Medley – SM9 (6 September), 100m Freestyle – S9 (7 September) and 4x100m Medley Relay – 34 Points (7 September).

In 2011, Claire graduated from Leeds University with a Bachelors Degree in Linguistics and Phonetics and hopes to pursue a career in speech therapy.

The University of Leeds has supported numerous Olympic and Paralympic athletes, both current and alumni students, in the run up to the Games through providing Olympic Scholarships.
