Leeds joins drive to encourage talented Indian students to come to UK

Date

The University of Leeds is joining universities across the UK to promote a film to help talented Indian students better understand how to apply for a visa and study at world leading institutions.

The film provides Indian students a taster of the immigration and visa application process by giving first hand personal accounts from students, Arshi and Angesh.

The University of Leeds has been recognised for its great work in supporting international students. It was ranked 1st out of 16 other participating Russell Group universities for overall international student satisfaction in the International Student Barometer survey (Autumn 2012).

The University offers a range of activities through its Global Community which aims to bring together Leeds students from over 140 countries across the globe to learn about and engage with different cultures and languages.

As part of the Global Community, Leeds has an Intercultural Ambassadors Programme which seeks to bring students together from different cultural backgrounds. This year the programme has recruited 42 ambassadors who will help organise events and activities for both UK and international students.

Jacqui Brown, Head of International Market Development at the University of Leeds said: “We offer lots of helpful guidance to make the journey to the University of Leeds as easy and enjoyable as possible.  As well as being a world class University we are located at the centre of a great city and so our advice covers both preparing to study and how to make the most of Leeds’ fantastic cultural, sporting, shopping and eating opportunities”

The film can be viewed at www.weareinternational.org.uk.

The film, created by Indian filmmaker Ravi Lekhi and directed by BBC journalist Nicola Carslaw, was launched to coincide with International Students Day (17 November). The new video is a joint project and collaboration between UK universities, the British Council in Delhi and the Home Office, and has been commissioned by the University of Sheffield. It will now be used by the British Council in India for Higher Education events.
