Choice architecture: opportunities for better food choice in school settings

Position
Policy project

Promoting healthy eating is critical to addressing the high levels of childhood obesity that persist. Adjusting how food choices are framed and presented to children (choice architecture) has been shown to change which foods are selected. Such changes can be developed and implemented in real world settings, such as schools where children select food from a few options.

Working in partnership with the Behavioural Insights Unit at the World Health Organization, this project examined the potential of choice architecture interventions within school food environments. The project scoped the utility of such approaches and explored barriers and difficulties.

This project is funded by the UKRI Impact Acceleration Account 2022–2023.
