Eligibility

Each year we award a number of High Performance Athlete Scholarships to selected athletes who are competing or can demonstrate aspirations to compete at the highest levels within their chosen sport. 

This scholarship is available for all academic programmes, including postgraduate research programmes, within the University (excluding education partnership arrangements). 

The scholarship includes: 

  • strength and conditioning programming
  • weekly sports massage clinic
  • physiotherapy
  • premium membership at the Edge, our gym, swimming pool and sports complex
  • scholar leisurewear,
  • dual career support and personal development support
  • sports nutrition workshops (with one-to-one consults where necessary)
  • sports psychology workshops (with one-to-one consults where necessary)
  • financial bursary.

Applicants must be competing in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth sports. We welcome applications from students from all backgrounds, including international students.

Our High Performance Athlete Scholarships are highly competitive. Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Be a member of the National Governing Body’s (NGB) performance squads, or part of the NGB pathway (under 21 or equivalent).
  • Have achieved senior or age-group representative honours at national and/or international level in the last 12 months, and/or current year.
  • Be part of a recognised professional club and/or academy.
  • Be competing at a national level where applicable.

Our scholarship programmes recognise the individuality of each athlete, and that needs differ from sport to sport. We provide an approach that tailors our scholarships to the needs of each athlete or sport.

How to apply

Applicants will be contacted following the deadline and invited to a short interview on Microsoft Teams.

Applications are welcome from all BUCS, Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth sports, however priority is given to the following:

  • swimming
  • diving
  • artistic swimming
  • rowing
  • gymnastics
  • trampolining
  • athletics 
  • women’s football
  • ice hockey
  • rugby union
  • hockey
  • martial arts (taekwondo, karate and judo).
