The University of Leeds International Foundation Year (IFY) forms the first year of a suite of integrated programmes for those international students who have the potential and motivation to succeed, but who do not yet have the formal qualifications required for entry to level 1 of a University of Leeds undergraduate degree programme. The integrated programmes currently available are:

Engineering with Integrated IFY- 5 years

These integrated programmes are some of the most successful and longest running courses of their type in the UK. Since their first intakes in September 1989 they have attracted more than 2500 students from over 90 countries, with the vast majority of these successfully obtaining a University of Leeds undergraduate degree. Some students have also continued to Masters and PhD degree programmes.

Course Content

During the IFY element of the integrated programme all students follow an Academic Study Skills module, which focuses on the skills required for producing academic work of a high standard both in writing, with written assignments from project work, and in speaking, through seminars and presentations. This module is delivered by the Language Centre.

In addition, all students must study modules in additional subjects, depending on which undergraduate programme they have chosen. The subjects available are Biology, Business, Chemistry, Classics, Computing, Design, Education, English Literature, Fine Art, History, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Social Science and Theology.
