Cultural engagement

The Cultural Institute promotes and integrates the University’s outstanding cultural attractions, creative resources, performance and exhibition spaces.

For the 2016/17 academic year, we are working with local and national partners to deliver the Yorkshire Year of the Textile programme, aiming to increase public engagement in culture, provide support and commissions for early career and established artists and showcase the creative work of students and communities.

We will continue to co-ordinate cultural activity on campus in 2017/18 with the theme Commemorating the First World War.

The University plays an important part in the cultural life of the region, and through the Cultural Institute we are backing the bid for Leeds to become the European Capital of Culture 2023 as its principal academic partner.

Yorkshire Year of the Textile

The Yorkshire Year of the Textile programme, supported by Arts Council England, is inspired by the region’s rich textile heritage, reflected in the history of the University of Leeds. All activities are open to our students, staff, partners and the general public.
