Career development

Having great people is central to our success and an integral part of our strategy. We encourage everyone to develop their skills, not only to help us, but also so that you can get the most out of working here.

I’ve been encouraged to develop my skills and career through training, mentoring and the opportunity to move between roles.

Staff review and development scheme

All staff take part in the Staff Review and Development Scheme (SRDS). It's an annual review which gives you an opportunity to look back at your successes and difficulties over the past year, and to plan your objectives for the future.

We want to make sure that all staff members are consistently well led and managed so we’ve introduced a set of employment standards in our People Management Framework. The framework has helped us to make more effective use of the annual staff review and development scheme.

Training and development

From courses and networks to workshops and mentoring, we have a range of development opportunities provided by Organisational Development and Professional Learning (OD&PL).

OD&PL runs a varied programme of seminars, courses and workshops for your personal and professional development. The courses are available for staff and postgraduate research students, and there is normally no charge.

OD&PL’s course listing includes training from other internal services including IT and the libraries.

LinkedIn Learning

All staff at Leeds have free access to over 16,000 courses on LinkedIn Learning.

Free events and seminars

The University holds regular exhibitions, seminars and lectures on a range of different topics. Many of these events are free to staff members.

Recognition for our support for staff

The Careers Centre won the Staff Development Award for its work in the front-line training and development of staff gaining NVQ level 3 and 4 qualifications.
