Wellbeing and support
At Leeds, you’ll have access to academic support, wellbeing services and independent advice throughout your time here.
The learning and support facilities at the University of Leeds have been invaluable to me. When I first joined, I had no idea there were so many resources waiting to be explored.
Find help and advice
You don’t need to wait until something feels urgent. If you have questions about student life, health, wellbeing, money, disability support or practical issues, our support and guidance pages can help you find the right next step.
Independent advice from Leeds University Union (LUU)
Leeds University Union (LUU) offers free, confidential and independent advice. If you need help with academic, housing, financial or wellbeing concerns, you can access support through student-run helplines and online community groups.
Support throughout your studies
You’ll have access to a range of academic support during your time at Leeds. You’ll be assigned an academic personal tutor who can support your learning, help you monitor your progress and connect you with further support when needed.
You can also access a range of online and in-person resources and support through Skills@Library, helping you to develop academic skills such as referencing and preparing for your dissertation.
Mental health and wellbeing support
You can access free, professional and confidential mental health and wellbeing support through groups, workshops, single-session consultations, short-term counselling and online self-help resources.
If you need longer-term support or treatment, we’ll help you find the most appropriate National Health Service (NHS) or voluntary sector services.

Support for disabled students
Disability Services can work with you, your academic school and other University services to put reasonable adjustments in place to support your studies.
You may also be eligible for funding towards specialist support, equipment or assistive technology.
Arranging support can take time, so we recommend contacting Disability Services at disability@leeds.ac.uk as early as possible, ideally before you start your course.

Support for care-experienced or estranged students
You could get extra support if you’re currently in care, have experience of being in care or you’re estranged from your parents (meaning you have no relationship or physical or financial support from them).

Facilities and support for commuter students
If you’ll be living off campus and travelling in, you’ll find a range of support and advice for commuter students to help you make the most of your time at Leeds. This includes a dedicated Commuter Lounge where you can study, relax or spend time between teaching sessions, as well as flexible short-stay accommodation for eligible commuter students who occasionally need to stay overnight in Leeds.
You can also connect with other students through Leeds University Union's Commuters Society, which was set up to support students who commute to University or live at home.
Prayer, contemplation and faith-based support
We want you to feel confident and comfortable following your beliefs at Leeds. You’ll find spaces for prayer and quiet reflection, and faith-based support available to everyone, whether you practise a faith or not.
There are also opportunities to connect with others through Leeds University Union’s faith societies.
