Voiceover: Volunteering is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and support others in so many different ways. Whether you've been volunteering for a while or thought about it, but are not sure if you have the right skills.
(As the voiceover continues, the video shows people trimming a hedge and gardening in a garden full of flowers, and people smiling and chatting as they wash up in a kitchen, cook and serve food. Volunteers are also seen going into community centres and walking along residential streets.)
Voiceover: This free online course will help you take your next steps. Volunteering allows you to build on your own lived experience while developing useful new skills for the future. It can be a really positive way to make a difference.
In this course developed with voluntary sector organisations in Leeds, you'll learn about some of the key skills for volunteers. We'll explore effective communication, what good teamwork looks like and how volunteering can build your confidence.
We'll look at issues of equality and diversity, and how volunteers can help to create a welcoming environment where everyone can feel that they belong. You'll also be introduced to safeguarding and why it may be important for volunteering.
Throughout the course, you'll hear from volunteers about their experience of giving their time and what they've gained from it.
