Smart functional and responsive materials are based on biologically-inspired principles. They present opportunities including biomedical applications and directed 3D nanostructure assembly - in which particles are assembled into ordered structures.
Our research includes:
materials and approaches for stem cell therapies and targeted and triggered drug delivery
biosensors for rapid diagnostics - for example to reduce anti-microbial resistance
organ-on-a-chip systems - which allow researchers to test drug treatments on specific organs
advanced contrast and calibration agents in healthcare applications
We focus on the translation of research into practical treatments for patients and collaborate with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
