Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Our General English courses are not currently open for applications for 2020/21, due to the coronavirus outbreak. This situation is under constant review.

Instead, you can apply for our alternative course, English for Life, which is taught remotely.

Entry requirements in academic year 2021/22

We normally accept an English language level of between Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B1 and C1 (lower intermediate / independent to lower advanced / proficient).

Check International Language Testing System (IELTS) and CEFR equivalencies.

This course isn't suitable for beginners or if your English language level is higher than CEFR C1. If you need a Student visa to study in the UK, you'll need to supply a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) IELTS certificate.

Placement tests

If you receive an offer to study on this course, we'll then ask you to complete some tests. These tests won't affect your offer, we'll use your test result to place you in a class with other students at a similar language level.

The minimum age to study on this course is 18.
