[Anne Lawrence, Director of International Pathway Programmes appears on the screen]

Anne: We're really excited that it's our 30th anniversary. 

That makes us one of the oldest foundation year programmes in the UK.

Over the years it's grown to include a full range of programmes across the University.

[Holly Evans, IPC Education Service Manager appears on the screen]

Holly: We have progression routes from the International Foundation Year to over 150 undergraduate courses in the University.

We've had people from, I think, 120 different countries over the period of 30 years that we've been running.

[Anne Lawrence, Director of International Pathway Programmes appears on the screen]

Anne: Over the last four years we've seen a consistent growth in the number of students coming. 

It's growing, it's developing – so we're looking forward to celebrating 40 years.

[Ahd, an MSc Advanced Chemical Engineering student from Yemen, appears on the screen]

Ahd: I would say it's a vibrant environment, it’s an amazing experience. You can see a lot about the culture, about how it works in the UK.

This first year is going to structure everything for you in the University.

[Shaikha, an International Foundation Year Engineering student from Bahrain, appears on the screen]

Shaikha: The International Foundation Year has been a great support for me, as an individual. 

Socially and academically, the International Foundation Year office is more like a family to me.

[Osama, an MSc Advanced Chemical Engineering student from Yemen, appears on the screen]

Osama: Not only did we study English in the Foundation Year but also some of the relating materials that would help us to succeed in our undergraduate degree.

[Jue, a BA Music with Enterprise student from China, appears on the screen]

Jue: I don't feel lonely because I always try my best to attend various activities from the different societies. 

[Kenisha, an International Foundation Year Arts and Social Science student from Indonesia, appears on the screen]

Kenisha: So I’m trying to milk it all in and like do as many things as I can. 

[Jiacheng, a PhD in Medical Engineering student from China, appears on the screen]

Jiacheng: The Foundation Year helped a lot, building basic knowledge to the way that the Uni sets out assignments and the way you write a report.

[Leen, an International Foundation Year Design student from Jordan appears on the screen]

Leen: A lot of new friends which I wasn't expecting. Like everyone’s so nice here everyone's just so welcoming everyone just wants to get to know each other.

[Shaikha, an International Foundation Year Engineering student from Bahrain, appears on the screen]

Shaikha: It’s one of the oldest International Foundation Year programmes in the UK and it has one of the largest student cohorts.

[Jian, a BA Social Policy and Sociology student from China, appears on the screen]

Jian: When I saw the foundation year, I was 17, so kind of scared. But the teachers here, they are all very friendly.

[Chi, a BA English Language and Literature student from China, appears on the screen]

Chi: All the events, activities, welcome talks and the previous ambassadors, they really helped me through a lot, really settled me in really well.

[Jue, a BA Music with Enterprise student from China, appears on the screen]

Jue: I think that Leeds is a very modern and inclusive city. 

[Patricia, an International Foundation Year Science and Health student from Indonesia, appears on the screen]

Patricia: Everything is in walking distance and you can just find everything in the city centre.

[Vitaly, a BEng Mechatronics and Robotics student from Russia, appears on the screen]

Vitaly: It has a big history. It's 30 years this year so they have big experience and, actually, they proved it by their teaching.  

[Aysha, an International Foundation Year Arts and Social Science student from Kuwait, appears on the screen]

Aysha: So far it's been a really positive experience. I’ve felt like I’m learning a lot of things I missed out on, not being in a British system school.

[Patricia, an International Foundation Year Science and Health student from Indonesia, appears on the screen]

Patricia: It's a good choice if you come to Leeds and you'll never regret it.
