General English course Entry requirements and how to apply
Check the entry requirements and find out how to apply for our General English course.
Entry requirements
The minimum age to study on the General English course is 18.
We normally accept an English language level between the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B1 and C1 (lower intermediate/independent to lower advanced/proficient). For further information, see International Language Testing System (IELTS) and CEFR equivalencies.
This course isn't suitable for beginners or for those with an English level above CEFR C1. If you need a Student visa to study in the UK, you'll need to supply a secure English language test (SELT)
Not sure about your current level of English?
If you're not sure whether your level of English is suitable for this course, or you don't have an English language qualification, email the Language Centre at general-english@leeds.ac.uk for advice. If you have an English qualification, please include a copy in your email.
