My role

I joined the Academic Skills team in the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) in 2019 and became the Academic Skills Development Manager in 2023. The team provides specialist one-to-one and group support to students around academic skills, maths and specific learning differences.

Our team delivers the Kickstart programme, a pre-entry skills course that aims to help prospective students prepare for their programme of study by refreshing or introducing key study skills. We also support applicants who are taking matriculation exams as part of the Alternative Entry Scheme at Leeds.

I am the Academic Integrity Lead for the LLC, supporting staff to promote positive academic practice amongst students and ensuring the University’s Academic Misconduct Procedure is administered fairly.

I am committed to making higher education more accessible to people who have experienced barriers and setbacks. I am particularly interested in supporting people who have had negative previous experiences with education, or who have been out of education for some time.

Before joining the LLC I worked for the NHS as an occupational therapist in mental health and taught occupational therapy at university. I am pleased to be able to use this experience in working with students on our Nursing Associate (Apprenticeship) Foundation Degree
