My role
My role involves providing administrative support to a wide range of LLC outreach activity, which aims to engage and support potential students. I am the main point of contact for our advice and guidance service which provides tailored information on educational progression.
I am also the primary contact for our JumpStart course, which is designed for adult learners wishing to build their confidence. It helps them gain valuable experience of what learning looks like in a higher education setting and meet like-minded people in similar situations.
I assist and support the running of our events for prospective students, both those held online and on the University of Leeds campus.
I work closely with other members of our Communities and Partnerships team to ensure that both the planning and delivery of our outreach activities are of the highest quality. I help to undertake and coordinate continuous development activities to improve our events and the systems that we use. This involves designing suitable promotional materials, making sure we accommodate our participants’ needs and providing useful information to adult learners as required.
In the summer period I produce a fortnightly newsletter for applicants who have accepted a place at Leeds after using our services and are scheduled to start with us the following September. This is designed to keep a line of communication open with incoming students before they start their course. The newsletter covers a range of topics such as introductions to LLC staff members, current events being held around the campus, useful computer tips and videos of current students sharing their experiences.
During this time I also assist with our ‘Read and Chat’ programme, which provides the opportunity for prospective students to attend the LLC in person to discuss literature, tour the University Library and increase their confidence with reading.
Helping to manage the LLC’s presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube are also part of my role. I lead on the creation of engaging and informative content which varies from infographics to flyers and promotional videos. These can be shared across all platforms to increase our profile and raise awareness of our many services.
