When I came to visit the University on an Open Day, I just fell in love with the campus and it just seemed the right place for me. A big city, but with all my university needs on one campus.

Students’ union

Outside Leeds University Union: an open pedestrian space with buildings on either side and colourful bunting overhead. People are walking around and visiting stalls in gazebos.

Leeds University Union is one of the best and most active students’ unions in the country. Its mission is simple: to make sure you love your time at Leeds.

With over 300 societies and sports clubs to choose from, the union offers plenty of opportunities to make friends, try something different, and feel part of the University community. The union building is a focus for students on campus – a great place to meet friends, eat, work or just relax between lectures.

I tried out different societies, particularly in my first year – this was a really lovely way of making friends whilst I was settling into Leeds.

The union is also a source of help and independent advice for all Leeds students, supporting you with any issues you may face as a student.

Sport and fitness

The Edge building, with a sign on the wall saying 'do what moves you', and grass and trees around.

The Edge is our on-campus indoor fitness, sport and wellbeing complex. Whether you want to keep fit, play sport socially or compete at a high level, you’ll find everything you need to keep active and feel your best. It has state-of-the-art equipment, as well as a 25 metre swimming pool and eight metre climbing wall.

If you live in our University accommodation, you’ll get Edge Club gym and sports membership included in your rent, allowing you access to a range of activities, including exercise classes, indoor climbing and the 250-station Technogym.

To keep up to date with what’s happening, follow The Edge on Instagram or follow The Edge on X.

We also have several excellent sports venues off campus. Our Brownlee Centre is home to the UK’s first purpose-built triathlon centre and sits alongside our new Bodington cycle circuit, one of the longest in the country. Explore all our sports facilities.
