Health and wellbeing

Starting university is exciting, but it can also be exhausting.

Taking care of yourself is the most important thing you can do to stay healthy and happy.

Register with a doctor

It’s important to be able to speak to a local doctor in case you are ill during your time at university. If you aren’t already, register with a local GP surgery and a dentist as soon as possible after you arrive.

Mental health and counselling

Life can be stressful. We’re here to support you at times of any emotional or psychological difficulties. We offer free, professional and confidential counselling to all our students. Leeds University Union also offer a student advice service and run activities to support your wellbeing throughout the year.

Staying safe

If you are moving to Leeds from somewhere else, it’s important to feel safe. Learn about your safety, including some simple things you can do to look after yourself.

Sports and Fitness

The Edge is our sports centre on campus. It has a gym with a wide range of equipment, spin studio, 25-metre swimming pool, sports courts and a climbing wall. So, whether you want to go to the gym, play badminton or take a yoga class, it’s never been easier to keep active. Take a virtual tour of The Edge

If you fancy playing sport for the University, we have a wide range of sports clubs you can join. These are student led and allow you the opportunity to represent the university whilst having access to excellent training and coaches.

If competitive sport isn’t your thing, you can play social sport. We have both social leagues and drop in and play sessions and it's a great way to play casually whilst meeting new people.

If you want to get out and about in nature, sign up for our Get Out Get Active programme. We run walks every weekend to some beautiful places nearby, including the Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire Coast, Lake District and Peak District. We also have indoor climbing and running sessions every week on campus.
