Be Curious

Parkinson Building, University of Leeds - Saturday 28 March 2020 from 10am to 4pm

Have you ever wondered what happens in a University? Join us for a day of free, family friendly activities, as part of our Be Curious research open day.

There’s no need to book – just come along on the day to the Parkinson building between 10am and 4pm. All age groups welcome.

There will be more than 60 stalls and performances allowing everyone to have a go with activities suitable for all ages.

As part of Be Curious we will be hosting the following activities

Deep Ocean Lab - a family-friendly performance by YouTuber and BBC TV & Radio presenter Greg Foot

What happens as you dive further and further into the dark ocean? Join Greg for the story of his scientific adventure to the deep. With experiments and stunning videos, Greg will show you the high-tech submersibles that took him down a crazy 1000ft into the twilight zone. He’ll explain the importance of our oceans and – thanks to Greg’s work with the Blue Planet II team – uncover the effect we’re having on them. Please register for tickets here.

Skylar’s missing note - a music and theatre experience for children

It tells the adventure of the main character, Skylar, whose piano has lost its middle-C key during a house move. This immersive piece of storytelling introduces children to the piano in a fun and engaging way. It is a collaboration between the Leeds International Piano Competition and Leeds-based Manic Chord Theatre. There will be two performances during the day. No tickets required.

Style:restyle – bring in your clothes for a fashion update

Do you own clothes you can’t part with but no longer wear? They fit fine, but...! Come to our styling workshop with your clothing, ideas for where you’d wear them and mood pictures (fav stars, scenes, etc). With little to no sewing, our fashion students will help you restyle, reimagine, re-inspire … Available throughout the day.
