We will be providing updates on this page but please check the FAQs below first.

Applicant enquiries

I am a UK based applicant

I’ve applied to the University but have not had a decision on my application yet. Are you still considering applications?

Yes. We are still processing applications as normal but please be aware there may be a delay in receiving a response from us.

When can I start my research degree study?

At present we recommend that you apply to start on 1 October 2020. Approximately 70% of all postgraduate researchers start at this time each year.

I need to start my research degree earlier than 1 October 2020, is this possible?

Specific circumstances may require you to start earlier than 1 October 2020. We recommend you do the following:

  1. If funded, ask your sponsor if you can change your start date to 1 October 2020
  2. Ask your supervision team if you change your start date to 1 October 2020

If this is not possible you may be able to start your research degree remotely, as long as it is possible for you do so.

Please contact DC Admissions at rp_applications@adm.leeds.ac.uk and we give you support and advice on what to do

I have applied for a scholarship, how will this impact on my application?

We are doing all we can to continue to process applications for scholarship funding and we will make adjustments to any deadlines where possible.

I’ve received my unconditional offer from Leeds but am worried about getting my visa in time. What should I do?

I am due to attend the 20-week pre-sessional programme but am unable to travel to the UK. Is it possible to take the programme online?

We are currently making arrangements to run the programme online, the Language Centre will email you with further details.

I’m due to apply for the 6 week/10 week pre-sessional programme but may not be able to present my language test certificate/university transcript by the deadlines. Can this be extended?

Full information on the application deadlines are available on the Language Centre webpages.

Offer holder enquiries

At present we are advising all those with an offer letter of study to start between March and August 2020 to change their start date to October 2020.

We understand that you may feel anxious about being able to start your research degree study and that there may be reasons for why you cannot change your start date.

If you have received an offer letter of study from us we will honour that offer - subject to meeting any conditions that will be specified in your offer letter.

Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) can start their study at the University of Leeds on the first of any month, so you can request a change of start date. The majority of our PGRs (approx. 70%) start their studies with us in October each year, so you may wish to start with us at a time when others are also beginning their research degree.
