Leeds Summer Schools

Our national programme of summer schools provides an opportunity for students to explore a chosen subject area and experience what it’s like to live and learn at Leeds.

Designed for Year 12 learners our summer schools offer a unique insight into university life. Students take part in interactive workshops and engaging practical sessions which develop their subject knowledge, study skills and careers awareness. Students will also meet current undergraduates, academics, stay overnight in student accommodation and participate in social activities and events.

There may be a contribution of up to £100 towards travel costs for eligible students. When we send confirmation on whether students are successful in their application to attend the summer school they will also be informed if they are eligible to claim for travel.

Subject choices

Leeds Summer Schools are available in the following disciplines:

Applications are now open and will close on Wednesday 27 March 2024.

We also run two online summer schools:

  • Dentistry – Yorkshire Dental Schools Summer School co-hosted by Leeds and Sheffield’s Dental Schools
  • Medicine (non-residential) – online with one day on campus in May – applications for Medicine summer school are now closed

We are also pleased to offer an Art Teachers Residential which offers a unique opportunity for teachers and their schools to improve their delivery of both academic and practical art lessons. This free two and a half day residential course at the University of Leeds provides critical advice, insight and experience from current art and art history teachers, academics and arts professionals.

How it works

Students may apply to one specific summer school in the preceding autumn/spring term. Each summer school programme is different, taking place in June or July depending on the chosen subject. Once enrolled, students will receive a full programme and practical information about any overnight stays on campus.

How to apply

For further information, eligibility criteria and to register their interest, students should visit the specific Leeds Summer School webpages linked in the subject choices section.
