Explore our programme of talks, workshops and events which support young learners in Year 7 to Year 11 from widening participation backgrounds.

Our activities are designed to encourage your students to think about the benefits of higher education, the different routes into university, and spark their interest in a range of subject areas and career paths.

Talks and workshops

The following sessions for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students are delivered by outreach staff and student ambassadors in your school.

HE talks and workshops

These talks and interactive workshops introduce your students to higher education, encouraging them to think ahead to their university options and what they need to consider when selecting their GCSE and Level 3 subjects/qualifications. Choose from:

  • Is HE for ME?

Subject specific talks and workshops

Our subject specific sessions are delivered by our student ambassadors who share their experiences of why they chose their degree, their journey to university and what it’s like to study their course.  Choose from:

  • Arts and humanities subjects include: Art and Design, Classics, Drama and Theatre Studies, English, History, Languages, Media and Communications, Music, Philosophy, Religion.
  • Health sciences subjects include: Audiology, Cardiac Physiology, Diagnostic Radiography, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene and Therapy, Gateway to Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Psychology.
  • Social sciences subjects include: Business, Education, Sociology, Social Policy, Politics and International Studies, Law, Geography.
  • STEM subjects include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environment, Engineering and Computing, Geography, Food Science, Maths, Physics.

Subject taster workshops

Students can explore a wide range of exciting degree subjects, discovering topics that are completely new or learning more about their current subjects. Choose from:

  • Arts and humanities subjects include: Art and Design, Classics, Drama and Theatre Studies, English, History, Languages, Media and Communications, Music, Philosophy, Religion.
  • Social sciences subjects include: Business, Education, Sociology, Social Policy, Politics and International Studies, Law, Geography.

Study skills workshops

Our study skills workshops support your students in developing the important skills needed to study well and prepare for exams.  Choose from:

  • Finding, analysing and using sources.
  • Exam anxiety.
  • Preparing and revising for exams.
  • Understanding the question and writing an essay.

Campus visits

Our higher education experience days on campus can be organised for school groups of up to 50 students.

Higher education experience day (Key Stage 3)

Our campus events for Key Stage 3 students include:

  • 1 HE workshop of your choice
  • 1 subject specific student ambassador talk of your choice
  • 1 subject taster workshop of your choice (subject to availability)
  • a campus tour
  • a student ambassador Q and A

Higher education experience day (Key Stage 4)

Our campus events for Key Stage 4 students include:

  • 1 HE workshop of your choice
  • 1 subject specific student ambassador talk or 1 study skills workshop of your choice
  • a campus tour
  • a student ambassador Q and A

Subject Taster Day

We offer a Medicine and Health taster day for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students to explore, and learn more about, the range of undergraduate medicine and health programmes available at Leeds. These events include a taster lecture, workshops, a campus tour and the opportunity to meet and talk to current medicine and health students.
